UNINTENDED WEIGHT LOSS IN OLDER ADULTS
Older adults are often at increased risk for unintended weight loss. Dietitians need to be equipped with the tools to provide appropriate interventions to stop unintended weight loss. This introductory course will look at increasing calories through food first, medical nutrition supplements, and tubefeeding with ethical considerations. Every step of the nutrition care process will be covered from assessment to monitoring and evaluation. After this course, the dietitian will be confident in providing interventions to stop unintended weight loss in older adults.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand the physiology of aging.

  • Determine when to use food, supplements, or tube feedings to address unintended weight loss in older adults.

  • Recognize potential ethical considerations in tube feeding in older adults.

  • Feel more confident in providing successful outcomes for unintended weight loss in older adults.
