Nutrition Life Stage 1: Prenatal to Infancy
NUTRITION LIFE STAGE 1: PRENATAL TO INFANCY
This webinar will focus on the first stage of life—from pregnancy through infancy up to 24 months. We'll explore how energy, macronutrient, and micronutrient requirements evolve across trimesters and developmental milestones. Emphasis will be placed on the role of breastfeeding in shaping the infant microbiome and its protective impact against serious health conditions. As toddlers transition to solid foods, attention shifts to nutrient density and appropriate portioning. We’ll also cover how to interpret growth charts as a key tool in monitoring whether children are meeting their nutritional needs.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand the nutrient needs for all pregnancy trimesters and infancy (up to 18 months - 2 years old).

  • Recognize benefits of breastmilk.

  • Educate and teach patient, parents and caregivers about proper nutrition pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, breastfeeding and infancy.

  • Understand the weight gain chart for pregnancy with various pre-pregnancy weights.

  • Use the growth charts for infants to measure progress and development.
