The Gut And The Microbiome Connection: A Primer for Dietitians
THE GUT AND THE MICROBIOME CONNECTION: A PRIMER FOR DIETITIANS
This webinar will provide evidence-based insights into the gut's physiological functions and its dynamic relationship with the gut microbiome—often referred to as the body's "second brain." We’ll examine the expanding body of research connecting microbiome health to a range of clinical outcomes, including but not limited to GI disorders. Topics will include the gut-brain axis, the therapeutic roles of prebiotics and probiotics, and the influence of specific nutrients on microbial diversity and function. Attendees will gain practical, clinically relevant knowledge to support patient care and nutrition counseling.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand the gut’s microbiome and functions.

  • Identify nutrients that feed the microbiome.

  • Recognize some GI diseases and other health conditions may be related to an unhealthy microbiome.

  • Educate and teach patients how to manage their gut condition through diet and nutrients solely for the microbiome.
