Diets are not the answer. This is especially true in women with PCOS. Traditional diets do not address the main issue of insulin resistance which makes weight loss even more difficult. Calorie restricted diets such as Intermittent fasting can leave you feeling “hangry”. They cause the metabolism to slow down and the body to reserve as many calories as possible. The body then starts to crave sugar (glucose) for energy causing an increased intake of simple sugars leading to more glucose floating in the bloodstream causing low energy. Not to mention triggering feelings of guilt and anxiety. Keto dieting promotes a high intake of fat that can make a woman with PCOS even more insulin resistant creating a vicious cycle of stimulating more insulin production leading to an increased production of testosterone.
