NUTRITIONAL BIOCHEMISTRY REVIEW: DIGESTION AND ABSORPTION
This webinar is perfect for the Registered Dietitian who has been away from the classroom and wants to "brush up" on Nutritional Biochemistry. It’s also a great review for RD-eligible participants who would like to review for their upcoming RD exam. We will be walking through the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and the accessory organs, discussing their role in digestion and absorption. Participants will have a thorough review of the secretions of the GIT and how they aid in digestion and absorption, as well as where nutrients are absorbed along the way. Finally, participants will have a review of select disorders of the GIT and how they are managed with MNT.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
- Describe the anatomy and function of the organs of the human digestive tract, including the accessory digestive organs.
- Explain how each of the macronutrients are digested and where they are absorbed in the human body.
- Explain how micronutrients are digested and where they are absorbed in the human body.
- List key enzymes/zymogens involved in the human digestive process.
- Discuss selected disorders of the GIT and describe current research.
