Sugar Vs Substitutes
SUGAR VS SUBSTITUTES: WHAT DOES THE RESEARCH SAY?
If you do an internet search for Sugar Substitutes, what do you find?

  • Sugar substitutes are terrible for you.
  • Sugar substitutes will cause cancer.
  • Sugar substitutes make you gain weight.
  • Sugar substitutes will cause diabetes.
  • Sugar substitutes are worse than sugar.

But is any of this actually true? The current literature finds that sugar substitutes have been shown to be a safe alternative to sugar. Although these sweeteners have not been shown to have harmful effects, they have not always been shown to have health benefits either. When discussing the use of sugar substitutes with your patients, what advice are you giving? This webinar will help you understand the science and research behind these alternatives to sugar as well as discus some of the truths and myths behind the health claims. We will delve into the pros and cons for use in our patients and how to help our patients implement these into a healthful diet or avoid these for potential problems.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand the research behind sugar in the diet and sugar substitutes in our diet.

  • Discuss the science of sugar and sugar substitutes in the body.

  • Understand the potential health benefits and potential harmful effects of each.

  • Discuss the myths and truths surrounding each.

  • Help patients identify which sweetener may be most useful to them and how to implement.
