Orthorexia Nervosa - When Healthy Eating Becomes Disordered
ORTHOREXIA NERVOSA - WHEN HEALTHY EATING BECOMES DISORDERED
What happens when healthy eating turns into dangerous restrictions? Orthorexia nervosa (ON) is a restrictive eating disorder that involves the pursuit of healthy, clean, pure, or right eating. Over time, restrictions increase such that health is negatively affected, usually involving malnutrition. It is an eating disorder that is classified under the Otherwise Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED) diagnosis. This webinar will define ON and examine how dietitians can assess and diagnose ON. Overall information for nutrition counseling and treatment for ON will be included. The majority of time will be spent examining two case studies in detail.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:
  • Define symptoms involved in diagnosing orthorexia nervosa (ON).

  • Identify aspects of ON that differ from other eating disorders (EDs).

  • Explain the course of treatment for ON.

  • Utilize learned information in practice due to examining detailed case studies.
