Managing Stress, Sleep, and Exercise to Balance Hormones and Reduce Inflammation via Nutrition
MANAGING STRESS, SLEEP, AND EXERCISE TO BALANCE HORMONES AND REDUCE INFLAMMATION VIA NUTRITION
This presentation will go over the damaging effects that our busy stressful lives have on hormones and neurotransmitters such as cortisol, serotonin, ghrelin, leptin and more. We will then investigate the impact these hormones have on our body's level of inflammation and disease risk. Finally we will explore nutritional and lifestyle strategies to reduce the secretion and impact of these hormones and improve health outcomes.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Identify which hormones are secreted in response to stress, inadequate sleep and overexercise.


  • Explain the impact these hormones have on our long term health.


  • Illustrate the nutritional recommendations to mitigate the impact of these hormones on long term health.

Theresa DeLorenzo

Dr. DeLorenzo has been a Registered Dietitian (RD) since 2001. She received her Bachelor in Science in Food Science and Dietetics from the University of Rhode Island and her Master of Science and Doctorate of Clinical Nutrition from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She has worked in a variety of academia settings, including her current position as Adjunct Professor at Russell Sage College and SUNY Oneonta.
