Intuitive Eating Top Common Myths
INTUITIVE EATING TOP COMMON MYTHS AND HOW TO WORK WITH CLIENTS WHO STILL WANT WEIGHT LOSS
A survey completed in 2017 showed that RDNs are using an intuitive eating approach more often than traditional weight management practices. RDNs are now more than ever emphasizing an all-foods-fit model rather than restriction. They are hesitating or refusing to provide specific meal plans, are discouraging clients from weighing themselves, and assisting clients in shifting focus from weight to other indicators of health. This supports the weight management paradigm shift that is being discussed in literature.

Clients often come to us ready to ditch diets and end the rollercoaster ride they’ve been on most of their life with dieting. However, many are seeking a non-diet approach yet still present with a strong desire to lose weight. If you are implementing a non-diet, weight neutral approach into your practice how do you honor the framework while also navigating your clients’ goals? How can you invite clients into a non-weight-control approach to their bodies and well-being, while respecting their agency, autonomy, and lived experience of their bodies?

Join Erin Gonzalez, MS, RDN, CEDS for a webinar that will teach dietitians how to navigate counseling clients seeking weight loss while utilizing a non-diet, weight neutral approach. Erin will incorporate case studies to help demonstrate the use of a non-diet, weight neutral approach and she will offer tools to level up your counseling skills to help you feel confident handling this challenging scenario.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand the most common misinterpretations of intuitive eating and how to ensure you are honoring its framework.

  • Communicate effectively with clients about the efficacy of body respect vs. weight loss approaches to health and well-being.

  • Assist clients to review their own previous weight loss and body respect efforts and understand the risks and benefits of body respect vs. weight loss approaches.

  • Develop goal consensus and collaborate with clients using body respect based approaches to meet clients’ health and wellness goals.
