INCREASE ADHERENCE TO A PLANT BASED DIET FOR TYPE 2 DIABETES
There are many diets recognized for treating Type 2 Diabetes. The diabetes epidemic is growing and it is important for healthcare professionals who provide dietary advice to clients to provide updated and evidence based nutrition guidelines for diabetes. The plant based diet focuses on whole grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables, nuts and non-animal sources of protein. Learn about the benefits of a plant based diet and how it not only helps people with diabetes by lowering insulin resistance but also is known to lower risk of cardiovascular diseases. A plant based diet treats many of the risk factors that are associated with diabetes like obesity, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension. To satisfy the requirement for renewal of certification according to the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE, www.ncbde.org), courses must relate to diabetes and be part of the list of recognized providers of the NCBDE. The Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is listed as an NCBDE recognized provider. Because Dietitian Central has been granted accreditation by the CDR, it therefore meets the criteria as an approved provider of CEs for CDEs by the NCBDE. The NCBDE does not directly approve continuing education for any specific webinar or self study course.

She currently works for Diabetes Care Partners as the Diabetes Program Manager and Patient Advocate where she provides diabetes classes, whole foods classes, and cooking classes. Also, she has been practicing telemedicine diabetes education for over 6 years. She recently started her own business called Healthier With Ginger to provide telehealth diabetes education services to people living with type 1, type 2 and pre-diabetes. Ginger is passionate about helping people stay healthy and encourages lifestyle changes. She enjoys spending time with her family including her three beagles.
