Health Effects of Cannabis
HEALTH EFFECTS OF CANNABIS: A GUIDE FOR DIETITIANS
In 2023, over 55 million adults in the United States reported using cannabis. Not only has state legalization increased access and acceptance in the use of cannabis for medical and recreational purposes, it has also created a growing market for food products containing marijuana and hemp derivatives. However, lack of conclusive evidence regarding the short- and long-term health effects of cannabis use has presented a challenge to medical and nutrition providers. Guidelines and recommendations for safely using cannabis in therapeutic purposes or medical nutrition therapy is limited. In this one hour webinar, you will learn how cannabis impacts diet, digestion and energy metabolism. We will delve into the effects of cannabis on sensory function, appetite and food intake as it is related to body weight and its use in MNT for various medical conditions.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Explain the various qualifying medical conditions for legal medical cannabis use.
