Nutrition Focused Physical Exam with Disordered Eating Clients
CONDUCTING THE NUTRITION FOCUSED PHYSICAL EXAM WITH DISORDERED EATING CLIENTS
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics now provides hands-on workshops on conducting the nutrition focused physical exam (NFPE). The NFPE is an important part of nutrition assessment as well as nutrition monitoring and evaluation, the first and last steps respectively in the Nutrition Care Process. The Standards of Practice for Registered Dietitian Nutritionists include use of the NFPE as do the Standards of Practice for Disordered Eating and Eating Disorders. There are, however, some special concerns with using the NFPE in the disordered eating (DE) client population. This webinar will explain basics of the NFPE and how to effectively use the NFPE with DE clients. General aspects of the NFPE will be discussed, and then aspects that specifically apply to DE will be highlighted. Case studies will be examined to help make the information presented more directly applicable to practice.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand how to administer a nutrition focused physical exam (NFPE).

  • Utilize the NFPE appropriately for clients with disordered eating (DE).

  • Decide which aspects of the NFPE may be more crucial for specific DE cases and situations.

  • Appropriately practice the NFPE while keeping within the dietitian's scope of practice.

  • Examine case studies to apply previous objectives.
