SUMMARY OF 2020-2025 DIETARY GUIDELINES
The 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines were released in December 2020. Join our webinar to understand each of the 5 life stages and how recommendations are similar and different. Participants will leave with advanced knowledge of the new recommendations for infants and toddlers, current sugar, saturated fat, alcohol and sodium levels. The presenter will dig deep into the recommendations and share ways to effectively communicate these recommendations with clients, so they leave with an understanding of the guidelines. The presenter will use this time to talk about practical ways to share this information in practice.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand the history and timeline for release of dietary guidelines.


  • Review the current 2020-2025 dietary guidelines.


  • List the recommendations for sugar, sodium, saturated fat, alcohol, physical activity and the definition of nutrient dense foods.

About the Presenter: Joanne Rinker, MS, RDN, BC-ADM, CDCES, LDN, FADCES

Joanne Rinker is a Master's level dietitian. She has her BS and MS in Human Nutrition from West Virginia University. Joanne has been a Registered Dietitian certified diabetes educator for 20 years.

Rinker has worked in the diabetes care and education space since her very first job. She has a passion for helping people with diabetes and other diabetes care and education specialist around the US. Highlights of her career include working with the North Carolina Diabetes Prevention and Control Program on the implementation and facilitation of the North Carolina Diabetes Education Recognition Program. As the program coordinator 2006-2013, Joanne was instrumental in building the largest American Diabetes Association (ADA) accredited site in the nation.

Joanne was named the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (ADCES) 2013 Diabetes Educator of the Year and used that opportunity to spread the word about the relationship between diabetes, hearing loss and depression. She served on the ADCES Board of Directors 2015-2017 and became an ADCES Spokesperson in January of 2016. Joanne was the North Carolina Public Health Association President 2013-2014, is a graduate of the Bernstein Fellowship 2015 class and has been published and presented on the national level for both ADCES and ADA.
