YOU ARE WHEN YOU EAT: INTERMITTENT FASTING FOR HEALTH AND LONGEVITY
Fasting dates back several centuries as a form of religious practice, spiritual renew or simply due to the lack of resources. Current day fasting has been touted as strategy to achieve weight loss and improve metabolic function. As we all know, caloric deficit achieved through restricted intake will likely lead to weight loss in many individuals, but can the strategies of intermittent fasting provide additional health benefit?

Join functional medicine dietitian Liz DeJulius for a comprehensive overview of the various forms of fasting and how research supports fasting interventions for both weight loss and longevity. Participants will also learn the concept of fast mimicking diets and how this low-caloric FAST may provide beneficial metabolic change. Once viewers have gained this knowledge, they will be given information and resources for implementing these recommendations in practice.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand the definition of fasting and different fasting approaches.


  • Learn the potential health benefits of fasting.


  • Gather insight on how to provide appropriate fasting recommendations to clients/patients.


  • Familiarize themselves with the concept of fast-mimicking diets.


  • Identify populations where fasting is contraindicated.

Liz DeJulius

Liz DeJulius is a Registered, Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist specializing in Functional Medicine Nutrition. Liz earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Dietetics from Miami University, a Master’s of Science in Nutrition Education from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, and completed her dietetic internship at the Cleveland Clinic. Liz practiced functional medicine on a large-scale at the Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Functional Medicine, as well in a small setting at Alliance Integrative Medicine in Cincinnati, OH. She is the owner of Liz DeJulius Nutrition where she provides virtual nutrition coaching services to busy women seeking real results and sustainable habits through lifestyle management and mindful eating. She is especially interested in culinary nutrition and teaching individuals how to make cooking a realistic part of their plan, no matter the skill level.
