Recovery Nutrition for the Injured Athlete
Current sports nutrition recommendations, based on the 2016 Nutrition and Athletic Performance Position Paper, are designed for healthy athletes. However, what happens whey they get injured or have to have a massive surgery? Do their calorie, macronutrient and micronutrient needs change? Recovery Nutrition for the Injured Athlete will discuss the elevated nutrition needs of the injured athlete including specific foods, spices and herbs that can help with healing. The webinar will also discuss nutrition for soft tissue versus bone injures and the changing micronutrient needs for those athletes. It will culminate with a discussion on meal planning and available resources for injured athletes.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Calculate elevated calorie and macronutrient needs for the injured athlete.

  • Recommend specific foods, herbs and spices to promote healing from massive injury/surgery.

  • Identify elevated needs of specific micronutrients and recommend supplements appropriately.

  • Understand meal planning for the injured athlete.
