Nutrition Support for the Oncology Patient
NUTRITION SUPPORT FOR THE ONCOLOGY PATIENT
Nutrition support can often be difficult to navigate; especially for cancer patients dealing with the side effects of treatment. This course will cover the essential things you need to know regarding nutrition support for cancer patients as well as common challenges and strategies to support your patients at home. Topics to be discussed include applications for nutrition support in oncology, risks and benefits of both enteral and parenteral nutrition support, assessment of needs, and strategies for management of these patients at home.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Identify several common reasons for initiation of nutrition support in the oncology patient.


  • Discuss management of enteral and parenteral nutrition for oncology patients at home.


  • Identify problems and side effects commonly seen in the oncology patient on nutrition support.


  • Discuss palliative and hospice topics related to home TPN therapy.

Jennifer Bryant

Jennifer Bryant, MS, RD, CSO, LD, CNSC, is currently a clinical nutrition support dietitian at New England Life Care. She is a registered dietitian, licensed nutritionist, nutrition support clinician, and a board certified specialist in oncology nutrition.

Jennifer is also an adjunct faculty member at Southern Maine Community College where she has taught nutrition for the last 9 years.

Jennifer has given several presentations on oncology nutrition, nutrition support, and drug shortages related to parenteral nutrition to clinicians around New England at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Lahey Hospital, The Massachusetts Dietetic Association, and Maine Medical Center.
