CQI Plan
CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement) is a management philosophy combined with a concrete plan used by clinicians in DSME, MNT and weight management programs to improve their processes for the patients, the practice, and the providers they serve. Unfortunately, CQI has caused much frustration among diabetes educators and RDNs over the years. Educators have lost their program AADE accreditation or ADA recognition due to not implementing required CQI activities. It was lost because having a CQI process and reporting project results is one of the ten National Standards of DSME…and adherence to these standards is essential to maintain program certification (and this certification is required for Medicare DSMT reimbursement). This presentation will eliminate these frustrations, once and for all, as Mary Ann will greatly simplify this topic. She will take you through the easy 4 Step CQI Process in a very organized way, using a common DSME problem case study: the retention of patients diminishes progressively after the 2nd visit to 50% or less. Ugh!

With the simple planning and organizing tools you will receive, all your team members will be encouraged to continuously ask: How are we doing? Can we do it better…more efficiently? Can we be more effective? Can we do it faster? Can we do it in a more timely way? And, they WILL complete the required CQI project with greater confidence and ease! Attendees will also receive Mary Ann's "Tool Box and Self-Assessment for a CQI Plan in a Best Practice DSME, MNT or Weight Management Program".
Upon successful completion of this two-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Name the 3 types of quality measures used to routinely establish and monitor improvement efforts in a DSME/MNT/WT MANGT program routinely.

  • Name the 4 groups who benefit most from clinicians' adherence to DSME/MNT/WT MANGT standards of care, as the standards improve the quality and consistency of the programs (all groups start with the letter "P").

  • Name the 2 goals of a CQI plan.

  • Name the 2 types of target markets for a DSME/MNT/WT MANGT program.

  • Name the 4 steps in the CQI process.
