THE NEW BLUEPRINT FOR CARE: A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SCIENCE, TREATMENT, AND COUNSELING TECHNIQUES FOR OBESITY
This webinar will explore the ever-changing landscape of intervention strategies for adults dealing with overweight or obesity. As research uncovers new information about the science of obesity, RDs must continue to incorporate these new concepts into evidence-based practice.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand the current science of obesity, including hormonal and homeostatic controls, that undermine weight loss.


  • Complete a full assessment of the client with overweight or obesity, paying particular attention to Food and Nutrition History, Weight History, Anthropometrics, Physical Activity, and Biochemical data, including relevant labs, medical history, and procedures.


  • Understand the key points of the Position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: Medical Nutrition Therapy Behavioral Interventions Provided by Dietitians for Adults with Overweight or Obesity.


  • Incorporate behavioral management components into counseling sessions, focusing on goal setting, self-monitoring, readiness for change, and motivational interviewing.


  • Provide nutritional insight, pros and cons, to clients taking or pursuing weightloss via medications or bariatric surgery.

Stacy Ferrari is a Florida-based Registered Dietitian with her master's degree in Public Health Nutrition from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has over 25 years of experience in education, wellness nutrition, weight management, public speaking, and health promotion. Stacy is currently working as a nutrition contractor in private practice.

Stacy believes that following sound nutrition practices along with a focus on wellness and fitness are the keys to a longer and healthier life. This belief fuels her passion for sharing evidence-based nutrition information to anyone with a desire to improve their health or the health of others.
