INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ESSENTIALS FOR RDNS: ETHICS AND APPLICATIONS
Many registered dietitian business owners are familiar with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Code of Ethics but may have questions about how to interpret and apply the Principle(s) that relate to the protection of their business and brand. Some of these questions include: How do you trademark your logo and business name? What can you do if someone else is using your same business name, logo, or method? What does the Code of Ethics say about topics related to branding, trademarking and marketing and what responsibilities do RDNs have in adhering to its Principles? Through an entrepreneurial RDN business owner’s experience and case studies, attendees will explore how to protect their business’s assets from infringement, unintentionally infringing on the work of others, and what they can do if adversity happens using the Code of Ethics as a resource and guide. Intellectual property (IP) is one of the most valuable assets of any business, including that of RDNs.
