Dangerously Thin: A Closer Look at Anorexia Nervosa
DANGEROUSLY THIN: A CLOSER LOOK AT ANOREXIA NERVOSA
Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a restrictive eating disorder that causes severe weight loss. While there are well-defined characteristics of AN, it can take many forms and appear differently in each individual who struggles with this type of eating disorder (ED). This webinar will take an in-depth look at AN, including signs and symptoms, diagnostic criteria, effects, treatment methods, and nutrition counseling for this ED. Aspects of severe and enduring anorexia nervosa (SEAN) will be discussed. Case studies will be examined to provide further details and aid in applying what is learned to practice. The goal of this webinar is to instruct dietitians at various ED knowledge levels – to increase knowledge for those starting to learn more about EDs and AN, and also to give more detailed information for those already in ED practice.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Recognize diagnostic criteria and various forms of anorexia nervosa (AN).

  • Differentiate between AN, severe and enduring anorexia nervosa (SEAN), and other eating disorders (EDs).

  • Understand treatment and nutrition counseling methods for AN.

  • IdentifySEAN and how it should be treated differently.
