Hemodialysis and Dietary Recommendations
AN INSIDE LOOK AT HEMODIALYSIS AND DIETARY RECOMMENDATIONS
In this presentation, we will explore the process of hemodialysis as an end-stage renal disease replacement therapy. We will look at the stages of chronic kidney disease and symptoms that might be anticipated as kidney function declines. We will then explore the various renal replacement therapies that are available such as incenter and home hemodialysis. We will look at current changes in the dialysis field from COVID-19 and what the future may look like within the field. We will also explore the various nutrient recommendations for a patient on dialysis.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand the process of hemodialysis.


  • Know the different end-stage renal replacement therapies available.


  • Identify specific nutritional needs of incenter hemodialysis patients.


  • Understand the impact of COVID-19 and the push for home dialysis.


  • Utilize the information in your workplace setting when working with this particular population.

Deanna Denny

Deanna Denny, MBA, RDN currently works as an established renal dietitian specializing in home dialysis and is a regional lead/proponent for home therapies in Michigan. She received her bachelors in science from Eastern Michigan University and her Master's in Business Administration/Analytics from Frostburg State University. She has worked as a clinical dietitian in the hospital, foodservice, and nursing home environments. She remains a business consultant to nursing homes and virtual nutrition companies as well as a nutrition educator in the community conducting cooking classes and health fair events.
