Food Allergies, Food Intolerances and Food Sensitivities
FOOD ALLERGIES, FOOD INTOLERANCES AND FOOD SENSITIVITIES: NAVIGATING THE RESEARCH
Understanding the difference between food allergies, food intolerances or food sensitivities can leave a person justifiably confused. Food allergies and food intolerance, which are not interchangeable, are easily misinterpreted by patients and clinicians alike. Patients are now asking for food sensitivity testing, but is this just a waste of money or is this a true nutrition concern?

Navigating through the research on food sensitivities and intolerances while relaying this information to our patients can feel overwhelming. In this webinar, we will discuss the truth behind food allergy, food intolerance and food sensitivity testing, dietary approaches for our patients and some of the truths or myths about these. We will address some of the top allergy/intolerance/sensitivity questions that dietitians are faced with.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to answer the following questions:
  • What are the top food allergens or how we develop food allergies?

  • What are the most common food intolerances and what nutritional concerns should out patients be aware of?

  • Is food sensitivity a real medical or nutritional concern?

  • What is the research behind food intolerances or food sensitives- is there evidence that patients really need to avoid these foods?

  • My patient is asking about testing for food intolerances and/or food sensitivities- is MRT science backed or reputable?

  • How can we best help our patients filter through social media and online influences that create more confusion around food intolerances or food sensitivities?
