Battling Food Addiction: The EBT Tool Kit To Combat Overeating And Weight Regain
BATTLING FOOD ADDICTION: THE EBT TOOL KIT TO COMBAT OVEREATING AND WEIGHT REGAIN
Research has shown that an underlying cause of food addiction, overeating, and weight regain is brain circuitry. Dietitians can help patients see their overeating as triggered by circuits and train them in techniques to switch off these wires. This one-hour introduction to Emotional Brain Training (EBT) will help you transition to delivering brain-based dietetic services that help patients stop self-judgement and begin switching off circuits to improve adherence to dietary changes. EBT is an evidence-based method for stress resilience and obesity treatment that Dr. Mellin has presented at FNCE, past Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) meetings, and state dietetic association meetings through this course. Add your knowledge of this neuroscience-based method to your nutrition counseling toolkit and participate in this session to evaluate your interest in becoming a Certified EBT Provider. The two-day webinar for EBT certification is provided through Dietitian Central.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Describe a root cause of food addiction, overeating, and weight regain as brain circuits.

  • Differentiate the two types of neural circuits: reactive and resilient.

  • Explain how circuits trigger drives for food, mood, relationships, and body image.

  • Evaluate the circuit types of one case study.
