VEGANS AND VEGETARIANS AFTER BARIATRIC SURGERY
Concerned about how to care for bariatric surgery patients that follow a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle? How can you help these patients stay healthy while honoring their desire to continue to be vegetarian or vegan? This webinar will focus on how to care for the vegetarian and vegan bariatric surgery patient. Discussion will center on current available evidence including information about micronutrients of concern, how much and where to get protein, as well as what foods can be included in each diet stage.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Identify how to meet protein needs after bariatric surgery on a vegan and/or vegetarian diet.


  • Recognize the reasons one would choose to be vegan/vegetarian.


  • Be familiar with 4 nutrients of concern to both vegan/vegetarians and bariatric surgery patients.


  • Be capable of creating complete meal ideas for each diet stage after bariatric surgery for vegans/vegetarians.
