Ethics in Social Media for the Dietitian
Do I need to disclose my credentials and/or employer when posting online? What do I do if I come across incorrect or misleading information among my RD colleagues? What can and can’t I publish? What is entailed in the term "Intellectual Property"?

These questions and concerns are likely experienced at some point in time throughout an RD's career. Online communications and social media are viable methods in building an audience, engaging with others, and promoting products and services. However, the dietitian is bound to ethical and professional practice. Caution must be taken while publishing, posting, and tweeting online content. Join us during this course to gain confidence in the dos and don'ts of online communications. This session meets the RD requirement for a unit of "ETHICS" during a 5 year renewal period.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Name at least 4 components regarding social media standards of professionalism.

  • Identify unethical and unprofessional practice as it relates to 3 common online dilemmas.

  • Describe at least 1 appropriate method of action forboth engagement/responseand reporting.

  • Locate the Academy’s associated Practice Paper for social media best practices.
