ETHICS 101 FOR THE NUTRITION AND DIETETICS PRACTITIONER
All nutrition and dietetic practitioners are required to complete a minimum of one CPEU in ethics during each 5-year recertification cycle. In addition to being a required topic for continuing education, it is a topic that is frequently encountered in practice. From professional boundaries to end of life care to social media… the need for ethical decision making is everywhere. This course will provide a deep dive into ethics by definition, ethics terminology, ethics in dietetics, putting ethics into perspective, and will provide an overview of how to practically apply the information you learn. This course will also provide an overview of the new Code of Ethics for the Nutrition and Dietetics Practitioners which will be effective June 1, 2018. The goal of this course isn’t just to provide another course on ethics, but to provide you the tools to better your practice and contribution to the profession.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand ethics and common ethics terminology.


  • List common ethical issues encountered in the nutrition and dietetics practice.


  • Feel comfortable with ethical decision making.

Katie Dodd

Katie Dodd, MS, RD, CSG, LD, FAND, lives in Medford, OR and works at VA Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics (VA SORCC). She is an advanced level practice dietitian in Home Based Primary Care, providing nutritional care in homes of Veterans. Katie is also a Board Certified Specialist in Geriatric Nutrition and Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She received her MS from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 2008 and her BS from California State University, Chico in 2006. She is mom to Gavin and Emily. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, rock hounding, spending time with family, going to church, and cooking.
