MASTERING THE NEW NUTRITION LABEL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FOOD REGULATION UPDATES
Changes are on the horizon in the food industry with big impacts on nutrition facts panels and menu/vending labeling. As a dietetics professional, consumers will come to you asking for clarification on interpreting product packaging and navigating nutrition facts panels. This course is designed to simplify and create clarity surrounding these updates to help you empower your clients to select appropriate foods for their nutrition needs. Topics covered include: why the change is happening, compliance dates, direct comparison of old & new labels, servings sizes or "RACC" alterations, added sugar and vitamin declaration, and menu and vending machine labeling revisions.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
Understand why labeling changes are being made.
List major changes to the nutrition facts panel and menu/vending machine panel.
Learn how knowledge of food industry regulations inform counseling strategies of the dietetics professional.
State the dates of mandatory compliance for all labeling updates.
Identify how these food regulation updates may improve client nutrition education.
