DIABETES 101
During this 2022 version of Diabetes 101, you'll learn the basics of diabetes types, diagnosis, treatment and recommendations. We'll also talk about the national diabetes prevention program, gestational diagnosis processes, diabetes TECHNOLOGY and more!
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Discuss current diagnosis guidelines for Type 2, gestational, Type 1 and Pre-diabetes.


  • Discuss the components of a national DPP program Review common complications of diabetes and treatments.


  • Describe current nutrition and exercise recommendations.


  • Evaluate when a person with diabets should monitor blood sugars and appropriate times to suggest medication changes.


  • Review diabetes technology and how to implement technology into practice.


FOR CDCESs: This Course Qualifies for CE Credit!

To satisfy the requirement for renewal of certification according to the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE, www.cbdce.org), courses must relate to diabetes and be part of the list of recognized providers of the CBDCE. The Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is listed as an CBDCE recognized provider. Because Dietitian Central has been granted accreditation by the CDR, it therefore meets the criteria as an approved provider of CEs for CDCESs by the CBDCE. The CBDCE does not directly approve continuing education for any specific webinar or self study course.

About the Presenter: Joanne Rinker, MS, RDN, BC-ADM, CDCES, LDN, FADCES

Joanne Rinker is a Master's level dietitian. She has her BS and MS in Human Nutrition from West Virginia University. Joanne has been a Registered Dietitian certified diabetes educator for 20 years.

Rinker has worked in the diabetes care and education space since her very first job. She has a passion for helping people with diabetes and other diabetes care and education specialist around the US. Highlights of her career include working with the North Carolina Diabetes Prevention and Control Program on the implementation and facilitation of the North Carolina Diabetes Education Recognition Program. As the program coordinator 2006-2013, Joanne was instrumental in building the largest American Diabetes Association (ADA) accredited site in the nation.

Joanne was named the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (ADCES) 2013 Diabetes Educator of the Year and used that opportunity to spread the word about the relationship between diabetes, hearing loss and depression. She served on the ADCES Board of Directors 2015-2017 and became an ADCES Spokesperson in January of 2016. Joanne was the North Carolina Public Health Association President 2013-2014, is a graduate of the Bernstein Fellowship 2015 class and has been published and presented on the national level for both ADCES and ADA.
