VEGETARIAN AND VEGAN DIETS FROM INFANCY THROUGH THE SENIOR YEARS
This webinar examines the evidence regarding both nutritional adequacy and quality of vegetarian and vegan diets. It also covers each of the primary nutrients of interest to plant-based eaters, including protein, iron, zinc, vitamin B12, calcium, vitamin D, iodine, and omega-3 fatty acids. Considerations for infants, children and seniors are addressed.
Upon successful completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- List at least 4 nutrients of interest for vegetarians and vegans.
- State the percent of additional protein recommended for adults and children eating high fiber, whole food, plant-based diets.
- Suggest 2 ways to boost calcium in a vegan diet.
- List 2 strategies to ensure sufficient iodine in a plant-based diet.
