This webinar will delve into the intricacies of becoming a NICU RD. The course will discuss the basics of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) nutrition, how to deliver effective, safe enteral and parenteral nutrition as well as how to develop rapport with other NICU staff so your recommendations are heard.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Describe the benefits of a having an RD in the NICU.


  • Discuss the unique nutrient requirements of preterm infants.


  • Prescribe safe and effective enteral and parenteral nutrition regimens.


  • Develop meaningful relationships with other NICU staff in order to make effective recommendations.

About the Presenter: Theresa DeLorenzo, DCN, RD
Theresa DeLorenzo

Dr. DeLorenzo received her B.S from the University of Rhode Island and her M.S. and Doctorate of Clinical Nutrition from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She has been a Registered Dietitian (RD) since 2001 with a focus on neonatal and pediatric nutrition. Dr. DeLorenzo has conducted research in a number of areas related to the nutrition care of the high-risk infant, including the impact of a Registered Dietitian in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) setting on the adequacy of parenteral nutrition administration and the timeliness of the initiation of enteral nutrition, the use of post-discharge formulas in low birth weight (LBW) infants after discharge from the NICU, and the adequacy of vitamin D intake in LBW infants. Her doctoral work looked at the impact of standardized feeding guidelines for low birth weight infants on enteral nutrition administration, growth, and bone and liver health and she focused her clinical residency on the care of children with obesity. Currently Dr. DeLorenzo is the Director of the Master of Science in Nutrition and Human Performance at Logan University.
