The PCOS and Weight Connection
THE PCOS AND WEIGHT CONNECTION
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder that is the leading cause of anovulatory infertility and a risk factor for long-term health complications. It is estimated that 5-10% of women worldwide have PCOS and, traditionally, nutrition therapy and weight loss are considered first-line treatment. Obesity is a common finding in women with PCOS and at least half of women with this condition are reported to be overweight or obese. But for women with PCOS, weight loss can become a constant struggle. Why is it so difficult to lose weight with PCOS? In this one-hour webinar, we will discuss the relationship between PCOS and weight.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Gain essential knowledge of PCOS diagnosis, symptoms, reproductive implications, and long-term health risks.

  • Understand health risks associated with PCOS including infertility, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, eating disorders, and certain gynecological cancers.

  • Gain insight on the relationship between weight and PCOS.

  • Gather weight loss recommendations for patients with PCOS.

  • Gain evidence-based nutrition and wellness recommendations for PCOS management.

  • Understand how PCOS affects fertility and recommendations beyond weight loss.
