Dietary Factors in Heart Health
DIETARY FACTORS IN HEART HEALTH
With the growing population of baby boomers, and increases in obesity, CVD and type 2 diabetes in the older population, nutrition will play a major role in maintaining health. Dietary choices, among other lifestyle factors, impact the cardiac health in the aging population. This webinar will identify the evidence behind food choices to maintain and improve cardiovascular disease including hypertension and stroke. This webinar will critically assess what the current science says concerning healthy eating patterns and nutrients implicated in heart disease risk and the practical advice to provide to clients. We will also address the emerging research on the truth behind fats, especially saturated fats, in a heart healthy diet.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Discuss the appropriate diet guidelines for heart health and CVD patients.

  • Understand the Dietary Guidelines and DASH diet for improvements in HTN and CVD.

  • Discuss appropriate food choices (and the rational behind these choices) with patients/clients to improve heart health.

  • Discuss with patients and colleagues the recent research on dietary fat intake as it relates to heart health.
