New Perspectives and Treatments in Obesity: Latest Research on Weight Loss
NEW PERSPECTIVES AND TREATMENTS IN OBESITY: LATEST RESEARCH ON WEIGHT LOSS
In your career as a dietitian, you have likely or will likely work alongside patients with obesity. In 2018, the CDC estimates that over 42% of adults in the US have obesity. Over the past year, alongside Covid, the average weight has continued to increase. Every day you hear about the latest diet trends and the latest research on what may be causing obesity: is it sugar intake, is it lack of exercise, is it lack of patient knowledge? For the past few decades we have been told that obesity is really about consuming less energy and expending more energy but what if obesity was more than just counting calories?

In this 1 hour webinar, we will discuss some of the most recent research in the world of obesity including the metabolic adaptations that accompany obesity, the biology of obesity, obesity as a disease, highly processed foods and obesity, pro-metabolic diet and the true impact exercise has on our weight.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Be able to understand and discuss the biology of obesity and use this to help patients better understand their disease.

  • Be able to understand the impact of highly processed foods on obesity and convey this to patients.

  • Help guide patients to understanding and implementation of the pro metabolic diet.

  • Understand and discuss the impact of exercise on obesity and help guide patients towards setting reasonable exercise goals.
