Gut Microbiome
TAKING CARE OF YOUR GUT: A PRIMER ON MICROBIOME FRIENDLY EATING
Did you know over 70 percent of the immune system is housed in the gut? It is not surprising that Hippocrates wisely asserted "All Diseases Begin in the Gut." Whether your patients and clients are looking to achieve optimal health or recover from illness - the digestive tract and ecosystem of bacteria that lives within it should not be overlooked. Quite conversely, it should be the focal point for dietary intervention. Join Functional Medicine Dietitian Lindsay Malone as she shares a primer on eating for a healthy gut. Attendees will be prepared to educate and empower patients and clients to make food and lifestyle choices in support of a healthy gut.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Distinguish between conventional medicine and functional medicine.

  • Describe the importance of the digestive tract and microbiome in human health.

  • Identify the specific functions of the gut microbiome.

  • Define the gut brain axis.

  • Define lifestyle strategies for taking care of the gut and the microbiome.

  • Identify resources to support continued learning.
