Dietitian Involvement in Levels of Care for Disordered Eating
DIETITIAN INVOLVEMENT IN LEVELS OF CARE FOR DISORDERED EATING
Nutrition counseling for disordered eating (DE) is complex and involves treatment of several facets. DE treatment includes nutrition counseling and therapy, psychosocial counseling and therapy, and medical monitoring and treatments. There are five levels of care (LOC) for DE designated by the American Psychiatric Association. The criteria for determining appropriate LOC relates to the facets of care provided, and some specific criteria is directly related to nutritional status. This webinar will provide details about assessment of appropriate LOC, the basics of dietitian responsibilities in each LOC, and how to properly transition between different LOC. Case studies will be discussed to apply information learned, with one more simple case and one more complex case. Whether you are a seasoned DE dietitian or just learning about the field, attending this webinar should enhance your nutrition practice.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • State the levels of care (LOC) for disordered eating (DE) and list criteria for LOC.

  • Assess appropriate LOC for DE clients/patients.

  • Define the basics of the dietitian’s responsibilities in each LOC.

  • Understand how to guide the transition between various LOC.
