Weight Loss Mediations for the Treatment of Overweight and Obesity
Overweight and Obesity are a worldwide health problem. There are many FDA approved weight loss medications being used today. This activity will focus on the use of weight loss medications, side effects, contradictions, cost and effectiveness.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand the 6 FDA approved weight loss medication for 2019.

  • Understand the recommendations for weight loss medications.

  • Understand the side effects and contradictions for weight loss medications.

  • Understand other factors that contribute to weight gain.

Janelle Hodovic

Janelle Hodovic RD, LD, MPH, is a Dietitian working in Bariatrics for the past 13 years for Unity Point Weight Loss Clinic in West Des Moines, Iowa. Staying healthy has always been a passion of hers. Working in the healthcare field, she's seen first-hand the effects of obesity. It is creating a substantial public health crisis in the United States and in the rest of the developed world. Over the years we have seen an increase in the prevalence of weight issues and obesity reflected among all ages, ethnic, racial and educational backgrounds. In her free time, she is a spinning instructor and CxWorks instructor at Gold's Gym and Aspen Athletic Clubs. She also enjoys participating in marathons, triathlons, road races, mountain biking and skiing. She has run 9 marathons including Boston, NYC, Chicago and Berlin. She is also an adjunct instructor for Grandview College in Des Moines, Iowa.
