Ethical Considerations in Genetic Testing
Do you have the correct forms set up in your nutrigenetics practice for informed consent? What do the current protection acts offer to protect your patients' genetic information? Are you taking extra precautions to protect the genetic information you have at your fingertips? This webinar will focus on the ethics, protections, and laws surrounding the ethical handling of genetic information, and protection of that genetic information. To protect your patients and yourself! This session meets the RD requirement for a unit of "ETHICS" during a 5 year renewal period.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Clearly explain the 2 federal laws surrounding protection of genetic information.

  • Set up the appropriate forms to clearly inform patients about genetic testing, protections, and ethics, before completing their genetic test.

  • Properly protect genetic information once results are delivered to the provider.

Note: The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy) and Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) are not responsible for the provider’s interpretation of the Academy/CDR Code of Ethics for the Nutrition and Dietetics Profession or its enforcement as it relates to the scenarios and content presented in this activity.
