"Intuitive Eating, Mindful Eating and the Health at Every Size" approach are alternative eating philosophies that have become quite popular in the past 20 years. They are commonplace in the treatment of eating disorders and also used to help chronic dieters with a history of yo-yo weight cycling. The questions answered on this webinar are, "Can these NONDIET approaches be incorporated into diabetes education and treatment?" and, "How can the Registered Dietitian teach a patient or client with diabetes to apply the tools of these wellness philosophies?"
Laura Cipullo, RD, CDE, CEDRD, RYT and former president of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals of New York will educate you on the three philosophies with research specifically supporting mindfulness and diabetes. This webinar will show you how to incorporate tips, strategies and behaviors to utilize when treating clients with diabetes. References are provided for further reading and education.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
Identify four of the ten principles of Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole, MS, RDN and Elyse Resch MS, RDN.
Identify 3 mindful eating tools such as the app Head Space, eating with five sense and food logs.
Name a study supporting mindfulness and diabetes.
Create a cognitive behavioral therapy food and blood glucose log.
Identify the three phases of teaching a client to ultimately eat using intuitive eating.

To satisfy the requirement for renewal of certification according to the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE, www.ncbde.org), courses must relate to diabetes and be part of the list of recognized providers of the NCBDE. The Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is listed as an NCBDE recognized provider. Because Dietitian Central has been granted accreditation by the CDR, it therefore meets the criteria as an approved provider of CEs for CDEs by the NCBDE. The NCBDE does not directly approve continuing education for any specific webinar or self study course.

Laura Cipullo, RD, CDE, CEDRD, RYT, is a four-time author and TV commentator specializing in eating disorders, diabetes, family nutrition and lifestyle consulting. Her expertise is founded on almost 20 years as a dietitian employing the "non-diet" approach since 1999 after attending Ellyn Satter's "Treating the Dieting Casualty."
Laura is on a mission to redefine 'diet' to its original definition of habitual nourishment and help all individuals develop a positive experience with eating and a neutral relationship with food.
With private nutrition practices in NYC and NJ, Laura employs four dietitians and a staff of 15. Her most recent book, Everyday Diabetes Meals Cooking for 1 or 2 (Robert Rose Publishing, March of 2017) was co-authored
with her NYC nutrition colleague, Lisa Mikus, RD, CDN. Laura's first book, The Diabetes Comfort Food Diet (Rodale, 2012; Robert Rose Publishing, 2015) utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy tools to help
individuals with diabetes learn to eat intuitively. In March of 2017, Laura founded a weight neutral wellness center in Closter, NJ called the Lifestyle Lounge. This self-care center offers yoga, mindfulness
and nutrition consultations based on Laura's own personal philosophy based on mindfulness and known as "Positive Nutrition." Laura is the past president of the International Association of Eating Disorders
Professionals New York. She has presented at many conferences including but not limited to NEDA, BEDA, and NyPH Grand Rounds. Laura is known for her motto, "Eat Kale and Cupcakes!" which is available on apparel
