2013 Guidelines for the Management of Overweight and Obesity in Adults
2013 GUIDELINES FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF OVERWEIGHT AND OBESITY IN ADULTS
Population-based surveys estimate 2 of every 3 U.S. adults are overweight or obese. Despite billions of dollars spent annually on weight loss diets, recidivism is high and long-term results are disappointing. This presentation reviews: 1) the brand new 2013 Guideline for the Management of Overweight and Obesity in Adults, and 2) the key recommendations of the Adult Weight Management Nutrition Practice Guideline published by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Both of these evidence-based guides are written to aid clinicians when they furnish weight management nutrition therapy and counseling, so that, in the end, they can improve, and maintain, health outcomes for overweight and obese adults.

Bonus Feature: Key Recommendations of the Adult Weight Management Nutrition Practice Guidelines from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
Upon successful completion of this 2 hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Name the 3 components of a comprehensive lifestyle program to treat overweight/obesity.

  • Name the 7 of the 14 different dietary approaches can produce weight loss in overweight and obese adults ("any approach can fit") and the one key "ingredient" for weight loss that must be incorporated in each.

  • Name the 5 key points to remember of the 2013 Guideline for the Management of Overweight and Obesity in Adults, per the expert panel and authors of the guideline.
