1998 - Present: Private practice (Practical Wellness LLC) as a Registered Dietitian doing medical nutrition therapy, nutrition and wellness counseling currently specializing in clients with fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue and related conditions. Recently published in the Fall 2011 issue of Peach Press Georgia Dietetic Association Newsletter, “Fibromyalgia – What the Dietitian Needs to Know”. Presently providing Medical Nutrition Therapy to patients with DM 2 and other chronic health issues. Past contracts have included Children’s Heart Clinic, Las Vegas; Las Vegas Paiute Tribe; and Pacificare HMO, Henderson, NV. 4/2011-6/2011: Renal Dietitian at Emory Dialysis Clinics, in charge of nutrition for home health dialysis patients (both PD and HHD) plus 3rd shift HD at 2 clinics as well as nocturnal shift. Left this position due to unrealistic work load and overtime. 6/2009 – 4/2011: Renal Dietitian at DaVita East Dekalb Dialysis clinic, where we went from Mineral Bone Disorder score of 16 when I started to > 23, putting the clinic in the top 20% of Davita nationally. I am proud that when I was MBD manager the clinic reached #1 in Region 6 for Davita Quality Index. I worked closely with the medical director and social worker to make sure our patients got the best care possible for their nutrition-related issues. Presented talk “Compassionate Communication within the Medical Team” to meeting of PD dietitians, using techniques to improve teamwork for best patient outcomes. 2006 -2008: Researched and wrote Fibromyalgia – What Dietitians Need to Know published in May 2008 by www.CEU4U.com for 5 units of continuing education credit under the learning need codes of medical nutrition therapy; wellness and public health; case management; and complimentary care, alternative therapies. 1990-1998: University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, doing community nutrition education. As part of the nutrition team, was responsible for program development, implementation and evaluation for community nutrition education in Clark County, Nevada. This included program design/evaluation, teaching, writing, research and volunteer development/coordination for a target population made up of diverse age, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds. Was interviewed for news articles, and appeared on TV and radio, including a segment on CNN. Initiated and facilitated West Las Vegas area Diabetes Support Group, using concepts of empowerment to help individuals manage disease and meet personal goals. Co-authored the Ounce of Prevention diabetes education program targeted to minority populations at high risk. Was responsible for the instructional design of the staff-training program for Ounce of Prevention. Edited Nutrikids Newsletter, a resource for parents and caregivers of preschoolers, most recent circulation in excess of 4,000/month (1990-1998). Developed and presented continuing education programs for nurses and chefs.
