NUTRITION FOR TACTICAL ATHLETES TO OPTIMIZE HEALTH AND PERFORMANCE
Due to high stress and work environment, tactical athletes (military, law enforcement, and firefighters) face unique challenges to maintain optimal body composition, which is essential to perform job-related tasks, prevent injuries, and improve quality of life. This webinar will discuss unique nutrition challenges faced by tactical athletes and how dietitians play a key role in guiding dietary intake to help firefighters achieve healthy body composition, enhance physical fitness, and reduce musculoskeletal injuries.

Analyze tactical athletes' nutrition risk using the Tactical Athlete Nutrition Score.
Understand the role a dietitian plan in supporting first-responders' nutritional intake.

About the Presenter: Brittany Johnson, PhD, RDN, CSSD, CPT
Dr. Brittany V.B. Johnson, PhD, RDN, CSSD will be an Associate Professor at Temple University starting in August 2021. Prior to this transition she was an Assistant Professor at Point Loma Nazarene University in the Didactic Program in Dietetics since 2015. As a certified specialist in sports dietetics, her primary interest focuses on understanding how food fuels tactical athletes for health and performance. She has a PhD in Health and Human Performance and developed the Tactical Athlete Nutrition Score, a screening tool to identify nutritional gaps in tactical athletes. Johnson has a strong passion for studying intervention methods to optimize diets to improve tactical athlete’s health and well-being. Her previous research investigated the relationship between nutrition and health concerns (sleep, injury, and physical fitness) in career firefighters using a food tracking app. Her research is focused on exploring, developing, and implementing nutrition programs to optimize health and performance in individuals.
