THE EBT APPROACH TO OBESITY AND STRESS EATING: THE 30-DAY STRESS EATING COURSE
After completing the EBT Quick Start Program, many patients who have struggled with stress eating and weight want to deepen their skills in resilience.

Learn the basics of the 30-day EBT course for stress eating, and integrate into your resilience nutrition practice more information about the encoding of reactive circuits and the role of mood, relationships, and body image in stress eating and weight regain. View videos of actual sessions conducted by dietitians that help patients switch off the moods that trigger overeating and the stress of losing their boundaries in relationships or feeling emotionally isolated. Practice resilience techniques to change the use of body size for self-protection, self-judgment, and perfectionism that amplify stress and reactivity.
Upon successful completion of this 2-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Discuss the relationship between obesity and adverse childhood experiences, attachment style, and parenting style.


  • Identify the relationship between the Mood Circuit and stress eating.


  • Describe the role of the relational circuits with stress, oxytocin, and appetite.


  • Describe the two types of Body Circuits linked to overeating and weight regain: body judgment and self-protection.

About the Presenter: Laurel Mellin, PhD
Laurel Mellin

Dr. Laurel Mellin is a nutritionist, health psychologist and internationally-recognized authority on obesity, disordered eating and stress eating. She is the founder of Emotional Brain Training (EBT) and Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine and Pediatrics, School of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco. She has a bachelor’s degree from University of California, Berkeley, an MA in nutrition from San Francisco State University and a PhD in health psychology and behavioral medicine from Northcentral University. Mellin is a New York Times bestselling author and researcher, with more than 40 years as a registered dietitian. Her organization certifies nutritionists in EBT.
