Nutrition Interventions To Increase Glucose Time In Target Range
NUTRITION INTERVENTIONS TO INCREASE GLUCOSE TIME IN TARGET RANGE
Glucose Time In Range (TIR) is the amount of time a Person With Diabetes (PWD) spends in their target Blood Glucose (BG) range….usually between 70 and 180 mg/dL for most PWDs. The TIR method works with Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) data by looking at the amount of time the BG has been in the target range and the times the glucose has been high (hyperglycemia) or also low (hypoglycemia). There are over 12 key nutrition interventions to increase TIR which are reviewed in detail in this webinar. Also reviewed is how to do "pattern management" for PWD when their BG values show a "pattern" of too high or too low. Additionally, the instructor also includes her "A-B-Cs of Diabetes Management" to use as a handy summary with PWDs.
Upon successful completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
  • Define new clinical outcomes beyond A1c (TIR, coefficient of variability, AGP).

  • State the effect of high fat, high protein, high carbohydrate and high fiber meals on post-meal blood glucose (time above and time below range).

  • Describe how timing of meals/snacks effects blood glucose variability.

  • Describe the effect of when meal components are eaten during the meal on post-meal blood glucose.

  • State the risk of consuming alcoholic beverages for the insulin using PWD.
