TREATMENT OF AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE: WHAT ROLE DOES DIET PLAY?
There are over 80 different autoimmune conditions affecting an estimated 23.5 million Americans (NIH), mostly women. Symptoms cross many organ systems and can make diagnosis and management extremely challenging. Although much remains unknown about causes of autoimmune disease, inflammation and alterations in gut integrity are common mediating factors. This webinar will focus on the science supporting foundational dietary changes to reduce inflammation and restore gut health and will highlight available research on the most common autoimmune conditions.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Define Autoimmune Disease.


  • Identify risk factors, clinical presentation and symptoms of Autoimmune Disease.


  • Discuss supportive scientific evidence for nutrition therapy in the treatment of Autoimmune conditions.


  • Review implementation and monitoring of the nutrition prescription.


  • Discuss supportive scientific evidence for additional lifestyle intervention including sleep, stress and exercise.


  • Identify patient and clinician resources.

Lindsay Malone

Lindsay Malone is registered dietitian and certified specialist in oncology. Lindsay holds a Bachelors of Science degree is Business Administration for Xavier University and Masters degree in Public Health Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University. She currently practices at the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine and is owner of Lindsay Malone Consulting, where she partners with patients, caregivers and organizations dedicated to wellness. In this capacity she works to share her nutrition knowledge as a writer, editor, public speaker and educator. Lindsay's passion for nutrition is rooted in her belief that food truly is the best medicine.
