PEDIATRIC FOOD ALLERGIES: PRACTICE ESSENTIALS FOR DIETITIANS
Pediatric food allergies have increased in the last decades, especially in Westernized countries like the United States. Food allergies most commonly occur in babies and toddlers. Identification and management of pediatric food allergies is complex. It is critical that parents of children with food allergies receive proper education to ensure their child has reduced exposure to their allergens, and that they receive adequate nutrition. In this webinar, you will learn the current state of pediatric food allergies in the United States; how they can be identified, and effectively managed.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand how food allergies develop.


  • Recognize laboratory tests used to diagnose food allergies and interpret their usefulness.


  • Discuss new areas of research regarding prevention and treatment of pediatric food allergies.


  • Learn methods to identify food allergies infants and young children, including those exclusively breastfed.


  • Describe how to perform an elimination diet.


  • Identify foods with complementary nutrition that can be added in place of child's allergenic food.

Natalie Weiss

Natalie Weiss, RD, LDN is a registered dietitian specializing in whole food nutrition consultation for women's health issues. Before starting her private practice, Natalie worked as a clinical dietitian in several Chicago area hospitals, and as an outpatient dietitian at an integrative fertility clinic. Natalie received her BS in nutrition from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.

She is the co-author of Homemade Baby and Toddler Food and the author of Eating For Breast Cancer Prevention. She lives in the Chicago suburbs with her two daughters.
