Work History

Melissa Martin, registered dietitian, joined the Woman’s Hospital team in 2005 working at Woman’s Center for Wellness and the hospital. Martin provides nutrition programming and counseling to the members of the Fitness Club at the Woman’s Center for Wellness and to the general public. Services provided include evening presentations, grocery store tours, menu makeovers, kitchen pantry makeovers, individual consultations, metabolic testing, and cooking classes. She previously worked as a clinical dietitian for Ochsner Health Center, Baton Rouge, and as director of nutritional services at VitalSource Specialty Hospital, Baton Rouge. Martin provided nutrition screening, assessment, and education to the hospital’s patients as well as supervised meal delivery. Martin worked at Pennington Biomedical Research Center where she assisted research dietitians in program development, nutrition counseling and group education. In addition, she taught cooking classes and provided cooking demonstrations. She also provided community nutrition education and staff relief at North Oaks Health System, Hammond.

Education

Martin graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition. She holds a Louisiana license to practice as a dietitian and nutritionist and is registered through the national commission on dietetic registration. She is currently working towards a certificate of training in childhood, adolescent and adult weight management. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association, Louisiana and Baton Rouge Dietetic Associations and the Sports and Cardiovascular Care, Weight Management, and Diabetes Care and Education Practice Group.
