Our hospital is instituting a uniform for each department; nursing, aides, EVS, CNS, orderly's etc. I am a dietitian/ CDE which is run by nursing and I may be required to wear a nursing uniform! Help, has anyone run across a uniform code and how have you managed? I am not a fan of lab coats, I dress in professional attire. I work in an outpatient clinic. HELP?

I would love to wear scrubs to work, but I am in acute care. I would think that if you are in an office setting, that you should be able to wear professional attire. Now, if you go into the acute care setting, I would expect you to wear a lab coat. Our hospital does require certain departments to wear specific color coded scrubs. Like housekeeping wears purple, radiology blue... It makes it easy to know who is who, but we are excluded from this.

Several years ago, I consulted for a large corporate SNF that allowed the staff RD to wear scrubs if desired (any color/print). However, in the outpatient setting, professional attire seems to be more appropriate vs. scrubs. I've seen many different attractive styles of lab coats in uniform stores for medical professionals (short or long length/sleeves, different types of material, etc.).

I found scrubs to be cheap and comfortable.
