Can someone suggest some good prep materials for the CNSC exam? I'm taking it this spring. I am a member of ASPEN, so have access to their info. They also have a few books, online guides and CD-roms, but some of their stuff is SO expensive. I found this:

but it looks kind of shady. Anyone ever used it? Any help you can give me would be much appreciated! Thanks. :)

Hello, I have not heard of that and checked out the website, I agree it does look questionable. Maybe someone else will post that is familiar with it.

I took the test a couple of years ago and used the The Science and Practice of Nutrition Support, A case-based core corriculum-- that is from ASPEN to prepare. I think it helped out. The new version does not contain pediatrics section though, and there are infant/ pedicatric questions on the exam.

Not familiar w/that particular study guide- but I believe that the flash cards that I was given years ago to help w/studying for the RD exam were from that company. The flash cards contained quite a few errors (namely some of the cards had the questions and answer portions switched). The cards also weren't as comprehensive as say the Jean Inman material. For the RD exam, it wasn't a big deal- I was able to catch all the mistakes and add in extra info where needed; but for the CNSD, I would be skeptical.

I ordered a study guide for the RD exam from Morrison Media, which I believe is same company you are talking about. My credit card was charged right away, but the review manual didn't arrive for about 3 weeks, actually the day before I took the test.

I didn't even bother with it. Passed the test without it, sent it back and got a refund.

I was just very dissatisfied with their customer service - or lack of it. Personally, I would avoid this company if there are better alternatives.

I used the ASPEN Nutrition Support Core Curriculum, but the newest version doesn't include pediatrics. I also used the online self-assessment program thru ASPEN which I found really helpful, and reviewed the Guidelines for the Use of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition in Adult and Pediatric Patients, which can be accessed on the ASPEN website if you don't already have a hard copy. Although the book and online assessment were expensive, I felt well-prepared and passed the test.
