Top of Page  1.  How do I ask a question?

You must be a member of this Web site in order to post your question or comment. If you are a member and are logged in, select the expert's section from the submenu of options displayed on the top of all Experts Corner pages.

For example, to post a question or comment for Dietitian expert Jane Doe, place your cursor over the menu item entitled "Dietitian Experts" to reveal the list of active dietitian experts. Click on an expert to select his or her exclusive section, in this example, Jane Doe. You'll note that along with Jane Doe's photograph, areas of expertise, and bio button, a "Post Question / Comment" button displays. Clicking this button will return a page where you can select the category and enter your question or comment for the expert.

Top of Page  2.  Who can ask questions? Do I have to be a dietitian or nurse or be a member of the medical community to ask a question?

No. Comments or questions may also be asked by the General Public.

Top of Page  3.  How long does it take before I get an answer?

This depends on the expert. Most responses are provided within 48 hours. Unanswered questions may be removed from our boards after 10 days.

Top of Page  4.  I don't know whether I should post in Experts Corner or the Message Boards? What's the difference?

Essentially, both sections provide "message board" functionality. However, there are distinct diffences:

Message Boards Experts Corner

Even if there are moderators assigned to a forum, all members are free to respond to any posted message. Questions and comments in Experts Corner are always directed to a specific "expert." It is this expert's responsibility to respond to all inquiries by either providing an answer or declining to answer.

A single thread may contain any number of responses (messages) from any number of members. Only two responses in addition to the initial question are allowed.

There is no set time period for removal of unanswered queries or messages. Unanswered questions may be removed after 10 days at our discretion.

Top of Page  5.  Why was my question removed from the experts corner section?

There are a number of reasons why a question or message may be removed from our boards. For example, if it...
  • includes inappropriate language or subject matter.

  • involves a subject that's out of the expert's area of expertise or comfort level.

  • poses questions regarding conflicts of interest.

  • contains self-serving messages or advertisements.

  • was posted to harass or antagonize either the expert or any other member of our community.

  • includes personal information such as a personal email address, phone number, mailing address, etc.

Top of Page  6.  What's the maximum number of unanswered questions an expert can have at any time?

Three. In other words, if an expert has three unanswered questions at one time, a message box will display when you click the "Post Question / Comment" to let you know that this expert is temporarily unavailable. Please try to post again once the queue has cleared for the expert.

Top of Page  7.  I'm considering becoming a member of your expert's panel. What's involved?

To join our expert's panel, you need to be knowledgeable in a specific subject area, and you need to be willing to take the time necessary to help other members of our online community. Experts can decline questions if out of their realm of expertise, as well as for other reasons such as inappropriateness, conflict of interests, and so on.

Experts cannot have more than three unanswered questions or comments at any one time. If this is the case, members are automatically prevented from posting until the expert's queue has been cleared.

If a question or comment has not received a response from the expert within 10 days, the question may be removed from our boards at our discretion. The question may remain longer if the expert requests additional days to answer.

If you'd like to become a member of our expert's panel, please email us at Webmaster@DietitianCentral.com.

In your email, please remember to identify your areas or expertise, and give us an overview of your qualifications, experience, and background.

You will receive a response from us within 48 hours. If approved, we will give you all the details you need to join.
